Regional interpretations of the Arts and Crafts movement arose in the United States. In the Midwest, architects and designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright developed a modern, rectilinear style that captured the horizontal lines of the landscape. Wright designed this tall-back dining chair to counter the horizontal emphasis in the building and to create an intimate space within the open plan of the house.
